The program targets the underlying causes or “roadblocks” of weight gain, namely hormone imbalance, neurotransmitter imbalance, and food sensitivities – to name a few. We believe that one must become healthy to lose weight rather than lose weight to become healthy!
You will be provided with various options including weekly monitoring, monthly monitoring, meal planning classes, and detoxification classes to help motivate and keep you on track with your progress. We believe in a HOLISTIC, WHOLE person centered approach. Therefore, your program will include not only a specific dietary regimen but will include: exercise instructions, fitness testing, stress management, and nutritional recommendations.
Please read the information under the following headings as parts of these classes, testing, etc. will be incorporated into your program:
Nutritional & Functional Medicine
- Events, Workshops and Classes

Weight Loss Myths
MYTH #1: HIGH PROTEIN DIETS WILL MAKE YOU LOSE WEIGHT
TRUTH: HIGH PRTOEIN DIETS WILL MAKE YOU LOSE WEIGHT, INITIALLY, BUT AT WHAT COST?
Most diet plans whether it be South Beach, Atkins, etc. will usually allow initial weight loss in the first month. They usually are all successful, initially, because they decrease caloric consumption and jump start your body into an unnatural and unhealthy state of ketosis. However, the goal of weight loss is not a temporary fix. The goal is for weight loss longevity – a lifestyle change. It is easy to lose weight (excluding other negative factors like thyroid dysfunction, etc) but much harder to keep weight off. High protein diets negatively impact the body by putting increased stress on the kidneys and liver. High protein diets are implicated in cancer, osteoporosis, and heart disease to name a few! Therefore, following a high protein diet may help you to lose weight but it will also help you to lose your health and is not the appropriate action plan for successful long term weight loss.
MYTH #2: I NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT TO BECOME HEALTHY
TRUTH: I NEED TO BECOME HEALTHY FIRST IN ORDER TO LOSE WEIGHT
Our bodies are designed for maximum efficiency. If we are suffering from a disease state (diabetes, hypertension, etc.) we will be less likely to obtain our ideal weight by following the diet that led us to our ill fate. The foods that feed disease are the foods that hold unhealthy body weight storage. An unhealthy colon, over taxed liver, high fat diet, high protein diet and a diet devoid of nutrients (fruits and vegetables) will simply maintain you as you are. If we cleanse the body and restore you natural vitality, weight loss is effortless.
MYTH #3: I NEED TO COUNT ALL MY CALORIES IN ORDER TO LOSE WEIGHT
TRUTH: EAT HEALTHY AND THE BODY WILL MAINTAIN A HEALTHY WEIGHT
How many of you know life time members of weight watchers? Counting calories take away control and helps foster negative relationships with food. If you make healthy food choices no counting is needed. If you make unhealthy food choices your health and waist will be negatively impacted and counting calories will become necessary.
MYTH #4: I NEED TO EAT LESS TO LOSE WEIGHT
TRUTH: EAT MORE BY EATING LESS
What has more calories an entire table full of fruits and vegetables or a cheeseburger? The table of fruit and vegetables. We have all been told EAT YOUR VEGGIES. Now is the time to listen to your parent’s advice – eat more fruit and vegetables. The benefits are many: increase antioxidants, maintaining your ideal body weight, cancer protection, and increased fiber to name a few. Fruits and vegetables will fill you up fast without the added calories. It is virtually impossible to eat too many calories based around a diet of fruit and vegetables.
MYTH #5: I NEED TO GO ON A LOW CARBOHYDRATE DIET TO LOSE WEIGHT
TRUTH: DR. ATKINS DIED OF HEART DISEASE.
Any diet that promotes eggs, cheese, sausage and bacon for breakfast has some serious flaws and is verging on the line of malpractice! FRUITS AND VEGETABLES are carbohydrates. All major health authorities agree: the majority of our calories should come from healthy carbohydrates like fruits and vegetables. All major health authorities agree: eliminate the unhealthy processed carbohydrates like white bread, cookies, crackers, etc. Starches are not fattening contrary to the Atkins authorities. In fact, it is the butter, sour cream, oils ,etc. that we put on a harmless baked potato that makes it fattening. Unfortunately, the message to the public is decrease carbohydrate consumption rather than decrease unhealthy processed carbohydrates.
“I would like to first thank God for the wisdom to seek him and His will for me. Next, a shout out and a sincere thank you to Dr. Jon and Heather Repole at Jacksonville Health and Wellness Center! Here is a short version of a long story! This has been a long journey of dealing with health issues that manifested themselves into lots of weight gain and life stealing hormone issues. As far as my weight, it has been as high as 240 lbs. and today as a byproduct of getting my body healthy I am 161 lbs. But what you can’t see in a picture is the huge benefits in my health and wellbeing. I began eating 100 % plant based and no processed foods on July 12, 2012 and as a result I was able to get off thyroid medication and progesterone (Praise God)! In trying to function on a daily bases, I was increasing my usage of both medications with little to no results. I am still amazed that I am now off everything and feeling awesome and losing weight! I have learned that weight is a by-product of health, so I don’t have weight goals, I have health goals. My body will find its natural weight and I’m ready! I still have a ways to go, but I’m not who I used to be, I’m excited about who I am, but not yet who I’m going to be….. Let the journey continue.”
