Where Emotional Healing Meets Mind-Body Integration

At Jax Health & Wellness, we believe that healing must encompass the whole person — mind, body, and spirit. Our counseling services are designed to help you navigate life’s challenges, uncover patterns that no longer serve you, and restore balance across every dimension of your being.
Led by Heather R. Fisse, LMHC, LMT, RYT, CPT, MS, our approach integrates modern psychology with mindfulness, somatic awareness, and functional medicine principles. The result is a deeply compassionate, multidimensional process that honors both the science and the art of healing.

Heather’s Counseling Philosophy

It is my belief that all individuals are conceived with an innate motivation toward balance and happiness, and that we possess the ability to achieve this state of wellness independently and within our social systems. Throughout our lives—from conception to present day—we are faced with many events that may pose obstacles to maintaining this state of wellness. As a result, we may develop patterns of behavior, thought, emotional processing, and interaction styles that present as unhealthy or distressful.
The purpose of counseling is to provide a safe environment and personal connection where you can explore and identify how these patterns developed. By understanding the origin and initial purpose of these maladaptive processes, we become more adept at challenging and replacing them with healthy, adaptive behaviors.
My role as a counselor is to assist you through this process while respecting and promoting your natural capacity to make informed choices and act responsibly in ways that improve your life and the lives of those within your system—family, friends, work, and community. I work to facilitate growth, healing, insight, and the exploration of choices that reflect the wisdom and responsibility you already possess.
I hold a strong belief that the mental, emotional, relational, physical, and spiritual components of each person work together to shape how we perceive ourselves and the world. I support the integration of these aspects of your life to the extent that you are ready and feel it is appropriate.
I do not value the role of pathology in striving toward health and wellness and therefore do not rely on formal diagnosing or labeling. I perceive this practice to be counterproductive, as it often discourages empowerment. Instead, I focus on identifying factors that have contributed to the development of the behaviors, thoughts, emotions, and relationships that you are seeking relief from—whether rooted in childhood, trauma, physiological dysfunction, or lack of fulfillment and purpose.
Your participation is vital. Therapy is most effective when you engage fully, as you alone possess the power to change your life. We will work collaboratively to form treatment goals. While therapy can lead to tremendous benefits—such as improved relationships, problem resolution, and greater life fulfillment—it can also bring short-term discomfort, such as sadness, guilt, frustration, or loneliness. I encourage open communication so we can process these feelings together for the greatest benefit.
Ultimately, therapy often leads to enhanced relationships, reduced distress, and a renewed sense of purpose and peace.

My Approach

It is vital that you feel enough trust and confidence in your counselor to share honestly and freely about areas of life that may be deeply private or confusing. This trust takes time to build, but I believe it can be accelerated when you understand what counseling looks like with me.

Although every session is unique, my framework is multidimensional (bio-psycho-social) and integrates a variety of psychotherapeutic traditions to best meet your needs, values, and personality. While I draw from additional theories when appropriate, my foundation is rooted in a humanistic perspective and incorporates the following modalities:

Humanistic Perspective

Seeing through a humanistic lens, I believe in your basic goodness and view you as a whole individual capable of growth, change, and fulfillment. We work together at a pace set by you, creating a safe space to reflect, grow, and make choices aligned with your true self. This perspective invites optimism about the human condition and encourages exploration of what it means to be fully human.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Often we find ourselves trapped in our own thoughts—attached to an endless inner dialogue that drives pain and distress. CBT helps identify specific thought patterns (schemas) that are harmful or irrational and influence behaviors and emotions in negative ways.
Through increased awareness, you can challenge and ultimately free yourself from these patterns.
This approach often includes homework assignments and worksheets to help you identify, modify, and replace unhelpful thoughts and behaviors with healthier ones.

Mindfulness & Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Sometimes emotions are difficult to articulate and instead manifest as physical symptoms—such as headaches, fatigue, digestive issues, or a sense of detachment. In these cases, I incorporate mindfulness practices, including breathwork, meditation, guided imagery, and yoga, as well as DBT techniques to cultivate balance and resilience.
These therapies create healing space between you and your emotions, allowing you to return to them with clarity and compassion. They also help process deep emotional scars from the past that may unconsciously influence your current health and relationships.

Interpersonal Neurobiology & Attachment Theory

When the past emerges in therapy, it can feel overwhelming or even frightening. Many clients fear “getting stuck” in old pain or uncovering anger toward loved ones. These concerns are valid and are always addressed gently and collaboratively.
Using an Interpersonal Neurobiological approach, we explore how early experiences— particularly from childhood—shaped your brain’s responses to stress and relationships. This process helps release self-blame and shame by revealing how ingrained and adaptive these patterns once were.
Drawing from Attachment Theory, we also explore how early relational experiences influence current connections, helping you understand and heal patterns of avoidance, insecurity, or dependency. Through this process, the past becomes a source of understanding and liberation rather than suffering.

Couples Work: Gottman Couples Therapy

When working with couples, I incorporate Gottman Couples Therapy as my primary framework. This research-based, goal-oriented approach identifies the key ingredients that make relationships meaningful and strong.
The therapy focuses on increasing respect, affection, and closeness, learning healthy conflict resolution, improving communication, and deepening mutual understanding. Each session is guided by structured interventions and at-home exercises designed to create lasting connection and trust.

Types of Counseling Offered

Individual Counseling

Psychotherapy offers a safe, confidential space and a therapeutic relationship that allows you to explore your inner world with curiosity and compassion. Together, we strengthen beneficial patterns and gently dismantle those that no longer serve you, supporting deeper self-awareness and fulfillment.

Couples & Family Counseling

Working from a holistic framework, we view individual concerns as part of larger relationship systems. Couples and Family Counseling brings these systems into the room, promoting balance and understanding of interdependent patterns. This approach does not assign blame but instead fosters shared healing and communication.

Group Counseling

Group therapy can powerfully enhance the growth experienced in individual counseling. Groups may be psychoeducational (e.g., stress management, mind-body connection, time management, nutrition, and exercise) or process-oriented, taking place over 8–12 weeks (e.g., trauma, anxiety, disordered eating, interpersonal development).
“Open groups” require no screening and allow flexible participation, while “closed groups” require commitment for safety and continuity among members. In either format, group work provides connection, accountability, and shared transformation.

A Total Mind-Body-Spirit Framework

Counseling is not about fixing what’s broken—it’s about remembering your wholeness. Through self-awareness, mindfulness, and compassionate understanding, you can reconnect with your innate wisdom, heal old wounds, and reclaim your authentic self.
